Mary Mount said: 'Our team of non-fiction editors and publishers at Picador are second to none. Alpana is a brilliantly incisive and imaginative editor and publisher and we are thrilled that she will be joining the team and will help shape Picador's non-fiction acquiring and publishing in the years ahead. We are lucky to have her.'

Sajip said: ‘It’s been a wonderful few years working at Viking, and I have learned so much from my Penguin colleagues, especially Daniel Crewe, who has been a generous mentor. Though it’s difficult to leave the team and my brilliant authors, I’m so excited for this new adventure at Picador, a list I have long admired for its commitment to literary excellence and pushing boundaries. I can’t wait to build the non-fiction list and will be looking for the very best writers and stories in history, art, politics, current affairs and narrative nonfiction.’

Sajip will be joining the Picador editorial team on 5th August.
