Pan Macmillan signs The National Literacy Trust's Vision for Literacy Pledge 2024

The award-winning Vision for Literacy Business Pledge provides a framework for business action to help close the literacy gap between disadvantaged young people and their more affluent peers.

Pan Macmillan has signed The National Literacy Trust’s Vision for Literacy Business Pledge 2024, as part of its continued to commitment to promoting literacy through its Making a Difference programme.

We’ve joined forces with more than 100 UK businesses to address falling literacy levels and improve the life chances of young people today.

At Pan Macmillan we believe that where you’re born and how wealthy your parents are shouldn’t determine where you end up. Empowering young people with strong literacy skills means they’re able to go after the life they want.

The award-winning Vision for Literacy Business Pledge provides a framework for business action to help close the literacy gap between disadvantaged young people and their more affluent peers.

The Pledge is run by the National Literacy Trust with support from KPMG UK. Now in its ninth year, 105 businesses have signed-up and committed to take action – this is the highest number of business signatories to date, since the Pledge launched in 2015.

Low literacy stifles children’s potential and hampers economic growth, especially impacting those in disadvantaged communities. Nine children in every reception classroom are already falling behind. Many will never catch up if we don’t act now.

Over the next year, through our Making a Difference programme, we pledge to continue to collaborate with our people and customers, work with our local communities and leverage our networks to empower more children and young people with the vital literacy skills they need to succeed, ensuring a brighter future for all.
